It has been a busy couple of days over at the garden.  Last Friday evening was spent trenching around the perimeter of the entire garden plot.  All 12 garden owners went in together to rent a trencher that would dig a 3′ trench around the outer edge.  Then on Sunday the fence that keeps the critters out was raised.  The garden is now officially open for business…

One of the first things that was done in the plot was constructing the potato box..

I then turned over the existing soil and planted  irish cobbler and red skinned potato seeds. I will post pics. as the potatoes begin to germinate.

Meanwhile back at our apartment, the tomato, pepper, and eggplant seedlings are really starting to take off.  Some of the tomato seedlings are now about 2′ tall and still have about 2-3 weeks before they can go outside.

Here is a summary of what else we have planted so far:

Cherry Belle Radish

Tennis Ball Lettuce

Green Bibb Buttercrunch Lettuce

Royal Chatenay Carrot

Di Cicco Broccoli

Dwarf Blue Curled Scotch Kale

Finally, we started the first of our wedding flowers.  Natalie sowed some Bells of Ireland flower seeds in a 5′ x 4′ plot that should yield enough for the bouquets.

I found out last week that I got a garden plot through Project Grow. I had been on the waitlist but someone at the Hunt Park site decided to split his full lot and give me half. The plot is 12.5′ x 30′ or 375 sq.ft. which should give us plenty of space to plant our tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, lettuce, carrots, onions, and a little area for herbs. The plan is to then plant and share the cucumbers, zucchini, squash, and pumpkins at Karen’s.

Here are some pictures of the Hunt Park site, and some updated pictures of the seedlings.
